What makes your service neuroaffirming?

A: Heather is a neurodivergent clinician who seeks professional development and training from highly experienced neurodivergent clinicians. Assessments are conducted on a strengths and identity first perspective focusing on the individual’s unique lived experiences. I aim to work with families and individuals to adapt my assessment room to meet the sensory needs of the individual being assessed where possible.

Please note: assessments such as cognitive testing require adherence to testing requirements set by the test creators and in these instances, it may not be possible to meet preferred sensory needs. However, where possible adjustments are made to ensure the assessment environment is comfortable prior to proceeding.

What is included in the cost of an assessment?

A: The costs of assessment services include the diagnostic assessment, psychometric assessments, time interpreting the information (collated from psychometric assessments, the diagnostic assessment and other available reports/sources of information) and writing a comprehensive report.

What happens after the feedback session?

A: Following feedback, you will be provided with a comprehensive report that outlines psychometric results, assessment findings, diagnosis (if one was made) and ongoing recommendations. If referrals to other allied health professionals were recommended to support ongoing care, then their details will be provided as well.

Can I apply for NDIS funding following an assessment?

A: I cannot guarantee that my diagnostic reports will be sufficient for NDIS funding. There are several factors that relate to this; however, important ones to consider are;

  1. Your diagnosis may not be covered under NDIS funding (for example, ADHD is not covered under the NDIS even though individuals with an ADHD neurotype may be experiencing significant impacts on their day-to-day functioning)
  2. The NDIS makes determinants based on an individual’s level of functioning within their environments and other factors outside of my individual report. If your diagnosis is one which may be covered under NDIS funding recommendations for the NDIS are included in your report. However, we cannot assist with the application and cannot guarantee NDIS funding for you

What can an assessment and report assist with?

A: This can vary based on the type of assessment and outcomes of the assessment.
However, the report can assist in guiding other allied health professionals with diagnostic clarity and assist individuals (and their loved ones) with developing a deeper understanding of their support needs.
For young people, the report can be shared with their school to gain additional support in the academic environment.
For adults, the report can support application of reasonable adjustments in the workplace or at university.
Diagnostic reports can be used when applying to the NDIS as evidence if the outcome of assessment is consistent with NDIS supported diagnosis. However, we cannot guarantee that diagnostic reports will secure NDIS funding.

What happens if my young person is unwell on the day?

Children & Adolescents (6 – 17 years): “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong” – Murphys Law.

A: We acknowledge that children become unwell, often quickly and seemly at the most inopportune times. Humans don’t perform to their best abilities when unwell and as such it is our recommendation to not proceed with the assessment. Please contact the clinic where your assessment is being held to notify them that your young person is sick and reschedule the appointment.

Cancellation fees do not apply to the first rescheduled appointment due to illness of the young person undergoing assessment. This does not apply to the intake or feedback appointments. If the assessment is not rescheduled and attended, then the cancellation policy will apply.

Please note: rescheduling of assessments, will mean that your feedback session is rescheduled as well to allow your clinician sufficient time to interpret assessments, psychometric measures and write the report and recommendations.
